Waffles are one of the classic and most popular breakfast items. They are very simple and easy to make. We tried and tested so many recipes and perfected this recipe for our tastebud. We are pretty sure that you would love this Belgian Waffle recipe as well. This recipe yields a beautiful and crispy golden crust on the outside while light and airy on the inside. We love waffles so much that we have them every other weekend.
Usually, these waffles are leavened with yeast, but some of the recipes call for baking powder. We use the combination of both to achieve that light and fluffy waffles. You can either use instant yeast or active dry yeast in this recipe. If you are using instant yeast, just mix the yeast with all the dry ingredients but if you are using active dry yeast you will need to dissolve and let your yeast bloom in lukewarm milk.

Belgian Waffles are known for large squares and deep pockets that can hold the butter and maple syrup. You can top these waffles with anything you like, possibilities are endless. We do not use a lot of sugar in this recipe so you can always experiment with the toppings. You can use this waffle recipe for sweet as well as savory topping, this is the perfect waffle recipe for Chicken & Waffle. Heloise loves her waffles with maple syrup, fresh berries, and extra chocolate chips on top. I top my waffle with fresh berries and maple syrup but sometimes I would indulge and have a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, whole banana split lengthwise or sometimes I just use butterscotch chips, sliver almonds, and maple syrup. Belgian Waffle
Ingredients
- 2 Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 1 Tsp Instant Yeast/Active Dry Yeast
- 1 Tsp Baking Powder
- 2 Tbsp Sugar
- 1 & 1/2 Cup Milk Lukewarm
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Tsp Vanilla
- 1/2 Tsp Salt
- 3/4 Stick Melted Unsalted Butter
Instructions
- Add flour, baking powder, salt, sugar & instant yeast in a mixing bowl and whisk everything.
- If you are using active dry yeast then add it to your lukewarm milk and let it bloom.
- Start adding your lukewarm milk to dry ingredients and mix it with the help of a whisk making sure there are no lumps.
- Whisk eggs in a separate bowl.
- Add the melted unsalted butter and whisked eggs to the mixture.
- Cover and let the batter stand at room temperature for about an hour and a half.
- Heat your waffle iron. Once it's ready, start making your Belgian waffles.
