I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t like chocolate. The same goes for waffles, everybody loves waffles. By now I’m pretty sure y’all know that we love it and every other weekend waffles for breakfast is pretty normal for us. We never get tired of eating waffles because we always love to experiment and be creative with different toppings.
Chocolate Forever
Our love for chocolate and waffle led us here. Topping your waffle with chocolate chips is sometimes not enough. Sometimes you want more chocolate, if that’s the case then this is the recipe for you. Check out our Belgian Waffle recipe if you are looking for a simple waffle recipe. We used cocoa powder in this recipe to satiate our chocolate craving. The use of cocoa powder sometimes makes the batter dry and yields dense waffles, to remedy that we used buttermilk and the baking powder will react with the acidity of buttermilk. We separated egg yolks from whites, whip the egg whites to stiff pick then fold it in the batter, and this yields very fluffy waffles.
We like to use Belgian waffle iron because it makes waffles with large squares and deep pockets that can hold all the goodness you put on top. You can top these waffles with sweet whipped cream or ice-cream. We topped these chocolate waffles with fresh berries and powder sugar. The sweet and tart berries pair very well with these chocolate waffles. If you want more chocolate flavor, then top it with chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, or some Nutella.
